New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Chappaqua, NY
Key Updates:
Site Dewatering and Weather Impact:
•The contractor is currently dewatering the site following the heavy rain over the weekend. A plan has been requested to address areas that continue to accumulate water. Gravel placement will need to be opened up for inspection and approval by the Town before the plumber can proceed with piping in the laundry and shower rooms.
Progress and Coordination:
•Plumbing Work: The plumbing contractor is continuing with underground work in the laundry and shower rooms. Some of the previously installed piping was not pitched correctly due to the rain, but the plumber is correcting the issue today. Once completed, the plumbing system will be inspected by the Town for a pressure test. •Electrical Work: The electrical contractor is waiting for the excavation work to be completed before proceeding with conduit installation. •Masonry and Steel Installation: The masonry contractor is scheduled to begin work after the crane arrives on March 24th. The focus will be on constructing interior CMU walls below the future mezzanine area. Once the walls are in place, the steel will be erected, and fall fittings will resume to complete the steel installation.
Cold Weather Precautions:
•Despite warming temperatures, cold weather precautions will remain in place to protect the integrity of construction work and ensure the safety of the crew.
Access and Parking:
•No construction-related parking is allowed on Elm Street or Memorial Drive. All deliveries should enter the site via King Street. Any access through Memorial Drive will be communicated to the team in advance.
Environmental Safety Measures:
•Silt fences and silt baskets are in place to manage runoff and sediment. These will be regularly checked and cleaned as necessary.
Community Engagement:
•The Fire District encourages the community to stay informed through the Fire District’s website and local announcements. Regular updates on the project timeline, traffic impacts, and other important developments will be shared. Feedback from the community is always welcome.
