New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update Chappaqua, NY
The New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project continues to make substantial progress, with key construction activities advancing as scheduled.
Key Updates Include:
Backfilling Operations and Site Work:
•Backfilling operations are ongoing, with the apparatus bay now completed. The back portion of the west retaining wall is being backfilled, and the east foundation area has also been backfilled following the successful 7-day concrete breaks. Plumbing and electrical contractors are on-site and laying out their underground work. •The waterproofing vendor has added an additional 2 inches of insulation to the top portion of the previously completed waterproofing work behind the west retaining wall and the southwest retaining wall. •The site contractor is focusing on ongoing site backfilling and excavation in preparation for the steel contractors to begin their work.
Cold Weather Plan:
•A cold weather plan remains in place to ensure that construction work, including concrete pouring, continues without delays despite adverse weather conditions.
Environmental Safety Measures:
•Silt fences have been installed to manage erosion and runoff, while silt baskets are in place to capture sediment and protect nearby stormwater systems.
Coordination with Contractors:
•Sewer Line Repair Work: Discussions are ongoing with the Town regarding permits for sewer line repair work. Materials are being procured for bracing to support excavation for this work. •Electrical Work: The electrical contractor continues conduit connection work on-site at the southeast corner of the site. •Plumbing Work: The plumbing contractor is expected to complete underground plumbing work, with 2 weeks estimated for completion of plumbing installation on the west side of the site. •Masonry Work: The mason is scheduled to begin setting up for masonry work starting March 10th to begin the interior Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) wall work below the future mezzanine area in preparation for the steel contractor. •Steel Installation: The steel contractor is scheduled to mobilize and begin steel installation on March 3rd. The precast mezzanine deck is set for pickup in late February, and the steel contractor will use a crane for installation once the steel work progresses.
Logistics and Access:
•No parking is allowed on Elm Street or Memorial Drive, and deliveries must enter via King Street. Any access through Memorial Drive will be communicated to the team in advance. •We are making excellent progress with the work out of sequence, enabling tasks like masonry and underground plumbing to be completed ahead of schedule.
