New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update
Chappaqua, NY

Key Updates Include:

Backfilling Operations and Site Work:

•Backfilling operations are ongoing, with the plumbing and electrical contractors working to lay out their underground systems. The site contractor is focused on site backfilling and excavation in preparation for the steel contractors.
•Heavy rains have caused delays, and the site was dewatered. The rain also impacted a portion of the installed piping, causing it to not be pitched correctly. The plumber will be on-site today to correct the issue, and the excavating contractor will add gravel to the trenches to support the piping. Once the underground plumbing for the laundry and shower rooms is complete, the Town will conduct an inspection.

Cold Weather Plan:

•A cold weather plan remains in place to ensure work continues despite challenging weather conditions.

Environmental Safety Measures:

•Silt fences have been installed to manage erosion and runoff. Silt baskets are in place to capture sediment and protect stormwater systems, and they will be checked daily and cleaned as necessary by the excavation crew.

Coordination with Contractors:

•Plumbing Work: The plumbing contractor is working in the southwest and west rooms of the apparatus bay area, connecting lines to the future sink, toilet, and showers. Due to the heavy rain, a portion of the installed piping was not pitched correctly, and the plumber is addressing this issue today. The plumbing work will be inspected by the Town to conduct a pressure test once the corrections are made.
•Electrical Work: The electrical contractor will complete conduit installation once the excavation work is finished.
•Masonry Work: The mason is scheduled to begin masonry work after the crane is delivered, which is now scheduled for March 24th. The initial focus will be on constructing the interior Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) walls below the future mezzanine area along gridlines A-G. Once the walls are in place, the mezzanine deck will be installed and fall fittings will resume to complete the steel installation.
•Steel Installation: The crane for steel installation will be delivered on March 24th. Fall fittings will be installed across gridlines A-G, and after the steel is erected, the mason will continue wall construction along those gridlines.

Logistics and Access:

•No construction-related parking is permitted on Elm Street or Memorial Drive. Deliveries should enter the site via King Street. Any access through Memorial Drive will be communicated to the team in advance.
