New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update

Key Updates Include:

Backfilling Operations and Site Work:

•Backfilling operations are ongoing. Plumbing and electrical contractors will be back on-site and laying out their underground work, which was delayed due to weather and freezing temperatures. The excavation contractor is back on-site after weather delays caused icing.
•The site contractor is focusing on ongoing site backfilling and excavation in preparation for the steel contractors to begin their work.

Cold Weather Plan:

•A cold weather plan remains in place to ensure that construction work continues despite adverse weather conditions.

Environmental Safety Measures:

•Silt fences have been installed to manage erosion and runoff, while silt baskets are in place to capture sediment and protect nearby stormwater systems.

Coordination with Contractors:

•Electrical Work: The electrical contractor will return this week to complete the remaining conduit work after the ground is excavated.
•Plumbing Work: The plumbing contractor is expected to complete underground plumbing work, with 2 weeks estimated for completion of plumbing installation on the west side of the site.
•Masonry Work: The mason is scheduled to begin setting up for masonry work starting March 10th, focusing on the interior Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) wall work below the future mezzanine area.
•Steel Installation: The steel contractor was scheduled to mobilize and begin steel installation on March 3rd. Due to weather delays, the crane delivery and steelwork will now be pushed to mid-March. More information will follow.

Logistics and Access:

•No construction-related parking is allowed on Elm Street or Memorial Drive, and deliveries must enter via King Street. Any access through Memorial Drive will be communicated to the team in advance.

The community is encouraged to stay informed through the Fire District’s website and local announcements as the project progresses. Regular updates on the project timeline, traffic impacts, and other developments will be shared. The Fire District welcomes community feedback and will continue to provide updates throughout the construction phase.
