New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project Update: Excavation, Formwork, Concrete Pouring Underway

Chappaqua, NY

The New Castle Fire District No. 1 Modernization Project continues to make substantial progress, with essential construction activities advancing as planned.

Key Updates Include:

•Excavation Work: Excavation has been completed along the southwest section of the site, and work is ongoing along the western portion to prepare for footing and foundation installation. Excavation on the north side continues to address water seepage concerns, with efforts underway to remove water from the site earlier than anticipated to mitigate the impact of recent rainfall. Soil hauling and stone placement will also proceed in areas affected by water seepage. This week, excavation of the east foundation footings was completed, marking the final footing installation for the new addition.

•Foundation and Concrete Pouring: The south foundation has been successfully excavated, and four spread footings have been completed for the future apparatus bay. Waterproofing was applied to the west retaining wall and south foundation walls this week to protect the structures from water infiltration. A major concrete pour is scheduled for this Friday, where 66 cubic yards of concrete will be poured. This pour will include the north walls, south walls, a portion of the west walls, and the east footings. Concrete work is also progressing with the formation of a retaining wall along the west side of the new addition.

•Cold Weather Plan: A cold weather plan has been implemented to ensure that construction work, including concrete pouring, continues without delays despite any adverse weather conditions.

•Environmental Safety Measures: Silt fences have been installed to manage erosion and runoff, while silt baskets are in place to capture sediment and protect nearby stormwater systems. A tracking pad will be set up at the site entrance to prevent soil from being carried onto adjacent roads.

The community is encouraged to stay informed through the Fire District's website and local announcements as the project progresses. Regular updates on the project timeline, traffic impacts, and other developments will be shared. The Fire District welcomes community feedback and will continue to provide updates throughout the construction phase.
